Position Overview:
MFR Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Technical Support Lead to support a government contract located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Technical Support Lead will provide technical leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on IT support to a field-based technical team responsible for maintaining mobile computing and communications equipment deployed throughout the City of Philadelphia.
The successful candidate will serve as a primary technical resource and team lead, ensuring that service delivery, customer support, documentation, inventory management, attendance, and project requirements are consistently maintained at a high standard.
Key Responsibilities Technical Support & Service Delivery:
- Provide primary Level 1 hardware and technical support for laptops, tablets, modems, docking stations, and other mobile computing equipment deployed throughout medic units and depot locations within the City of Philadelphia.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, and wireless device issues through testing, analysis, and debugging.
- Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate prime contractor, manufacturer, or vendor when required.
- Respond promptly to client-reported issues and ensure all incidents are resolved and documented accurately within the designated ticketing system.
- Enter, update, and maintain all incidents and service requests within the ticketing system, ensuring timely, complete, and accurate documentation.
- Monitor the ticketing system to ensure technicians complete assigned work consistently, accurately, and within established service expectations.
- Take a lead role in the planning, installation, coordination, and deployment of system-wide hardware and software updates and upgrades.
- Diagnose potential technical issues remotely by telephone or in person and determine the appropriate course of action.
- Travel to depot locations throughout Philadelphia to retrieve, replace, troubleshoot, and deploy defective or replacement equipment as required.
- Participate in daily depot communications to verify that required hardware inventory is available, operational, and ready for deployment.
- Support MFR employees with hardware, software, and technical issues as required.
- Provision, configure, and deploy new hardware and software for MFR personnel as needed.
Team Leadership & Performance Management:
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and direction to field technicians.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, effective communication, and exceptional customer service.
- Schedule and conduct weekly project meetings with technicians and communicate project status, concerns, operational issues, and potential risks to the MFR Project Manager.
- Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback and status reports to the MFR Project Manager.
- Identify performance, operational, or service-delivery concerns and escalate them through the appropriate management channels.
- Ensure employees adhere to assigned work schedules, attendance requirements, and corporate policies.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, absences, late arrivals, and early departures.
- Document recurring attendance or scheduling concerns and escalate them through the appropriate management and Human Resources processes.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, accountability, and continuous professional development among technical staff.
Project & Operational Management:
- Provide project and operational reports as requested by the MFR Project Manager.
- Prepare and submit the PFD Monthly Status Report to the Project Manager and client.
- Take ownership of special, ad hoc, or unplanned projects as assigned by the client or MFR management.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead quality initiatives designed to improve service delivery, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor service trends, recurring issues, significant problems, delays, and potential project risks, and communicate them promptly to the MFR Project Manager.
- Keep customers informed of significant service issues, scheduled outages, system-wide problems, and the status of reported incidents.
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) remain current and accurately reflect operational processes and requirements.
- Maintain accurate technical and operational documentation.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant IT experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant IT experience.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- CompTIA A+ mandatory.
- Previous healthcare IT experience is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting field-based or geographically distributed technical environments is preferred.
Technical & Professional Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize competing demands, and work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Above-average proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the ability to assess, interpret, and resolve technical issues.
- Experience troubleshooting wireless and mobile computing devices.
- Working knowledge of Sierra Wireless XR90 modems is considered an asset.
- Experience with JIRA or other IT service management/ticketing platforms.
- Experience supporting Panasonic ToughBook and ToughPad devices is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills and a professional, client-focused approach.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example and build trust through honesty, integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with technical teams, management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
Physical & Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Must have access to a reliable personal vehicle for travel between Philadelphia-area facilities. Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
- Knowledge of the Philadelphia metropolitan area is considered an asset.
- Ability to lift, carry, stand, bend, stoop, and work in various physical positions for extended periods as required by the position.
- Must successfully pass applicable background, credit, and motor vehicle record checks.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Employment Details:
- Employment Status: Full-Time
- Work Schedule: 40 hours per week
- Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., subject to operational requirements
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends, to support a seven-day operational environment
- Travel: Up to 20% within the City of Philadelphia
- Mileage: Reimbursed in accordance with company policy
